Surface Battle Group v3.0 Core Rules

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Surface Battle Group v3.0 ! Simply put, it's the best! Including Littoral combat ships and Somali pirates as well as the 1982 Falklands fleets. Fifty eight counters of ships, aircraft, missiles and torpedoes are included. Eight scenarios that span the world's hot spots are inside for you to explore using these easy rules. Also included is everything from the Somali Pirate Expansion.

Every rule from the earlier version has been reviewed, adjusted, polished and clarified while retaining the core friendliness that provides such a great "feel". The focus on the ship commander's point of view is retained. New optional rules allow for faster play.

The ship, aircraft and weapons counters go along with all of the "game mechanics" counters that are also included. The rules have even been extended to cover stealth aircraft and hidden movement for submarines.

The best modern naval tactical combat game just got bigger and better!

Do you need modern ships to play? Look at Paper Forge! They are the perfect size for SBG. The price is unbeatable.

The rules only cover radar detection for surface vessels, not visual detection. Some of the small vessels do not have radar so do we not need some form of visual decetion?

What's the best way to play this? the scale is very zoomed in.
Has anyone tried a foot = 40 or even 80 nm instead of 4 ?
Detection range 75 foot?...

That's all I've got right now, so I wonder if I should take a look at the core rules for this?

Also, does anyone have any pictures of the game being played? I'd like to see it laid out on a table.

How many pages are the core rules?

Finally, how fast can I expect to get through a medium sized scenario once I get the rules down?

Depends on the size of miniatures...if you use 1/2400 probably a 8 by 6 foot table is fine

Is this a miniature wargame and not a board wargame with hex and counters? How big of a table do you need to play this?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
