Army of Flaming Spears is a creative reworking of the Ottoman army, a fantasy version based on a real prototype.

The Ottoman Army was the first to introduce a truly permanent army. The Janissaries were only called "slave warriors" - in fact, they were devoted only to the Sultan and were faithful to constant military force. In the 15-16 centuries, this was a serious advantage - the presence of permanent professional units of infantry, artillery and even cavalry in the army of the Empire. But by the end of the 17th century, the system was in deep crisis and hopelessly behind the Western armies. In this state, the Ottomans made the last serious attempt to advance to Europe - the siege of Vienna in 1683.
